Narendra Modi shares his thoughts on Education at National Education Summit – 2014

Narendra Modi inaugurated a two-day National Education Summit-2014 organized by the education department of Gujarat at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. The event has been organized with a view to helping the Indian youth avail global quality education and similarly to discuss on the opportunities and challenges prevailing in the fields of education.

The esteemed audience was also addressed by the Honourable Ambassador of Italy, Professor Dinesh Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, VC of Mumbai University Professor Rajan Welukar and Dr. Kishore Singh, Special Rapporteur on the right to education UNESCO.

Mr. Modi’s speech focused on the following main points:

  1. There is craze for white collar jobs. It is as if doing small things is bad. This must change.
  2. Change is possible when each and every pupil is treated like a celebrity.
  3. Envisioned an education system that creates harbingers of change.
  4. Schools give character certificates. What is the use of these? We suggested why not give Aptitude Certificates?
  5. School children go for school trips to Udaipur or Taj Mahal but at the same time why cannot we take our children to a manufacturing plant where cutting edge research is taking place?

Mr. Modi concluded his speech by thanking all present and accepting the invitation to attend the summit hosted by the education department of Gujarat.
